WHO Dr. Knox Herndon is a
retired US Army Chaplain who has traveled around the world with the military
for 30 years. During that time, he has been a military collector and
historian. He has been a Paratrooper, Jumpmaster, and Pathfinder, with the
82nd Airborne Division and made 156 jumps both as the Jump School Chaplain
at Ft. Benning, and with the 82nd ABN Division at Fort Bragg. His
Father was the first Glider Chaplain of WWII. They both served in the 3/325
Infantry Battalion at Fort Bragg, N.C. except his father was in the 3/325
Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR), and his son was in the 3/325 Parachute
Infantry Regiment (PIR). While on active duty, he was the project chaplain
for producing "America's Army Corp Values" which are currently being taught
throughout the Army. He currently is the Senior Pastor of
His House Community Church,
in Senoia Georgia.
Dr. Lydia Herndon is an educator who adds a Georgia Board of Regents'
credentialed "educational component" to the Museum. She has worked
extensively in the "Character Education" field and has written several self
published works. Since the Museum is shown at Patriotic, civic, collector,
historical, military re-enactor, public and school "onsite field trips," she
provides educational material and worksheets to go along with the Museum
displays and artifacts. She further provides training, speaking, and
educational material to support a teacher in teaching their history, and
American democratic and patriotic values components. She has taught in the
classroom and a teacher educator at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Teachers can earn Continuing Education Units (CEU's)
WHAT "The
Traveling Museum is a "chopped" WWII C-47 airplane which had been flown into
the Peachtree Dekalb Charlie Brown Airfield in Georgia many years ago and
left there to deteriorate as a "prop" for the 57th Squadron Restaurant.
(See
Pictures) Since then, it has been restored to static display condition,
placed on a mobile house trailer frame, repainted with WWII invasion stripes
and markings and the cockpit, and cargo bay is filled with original
(walk-through) historical displays. A child or adult can walk through the
entire airplane, and see original D-Day Artifacts, and sit in the co-pilot
seat, hear recorded pilot and combat sounds, and "fly the plane" with the
movable "steering yoke." This beautiful and historical museum can be brought
to your site or event for display.
"Report after report has stated that American students
are not being taught AMERICAN HISTORY or CIVICS as in the past. It has been
reported that they have very little knowledge or interest in this vital
subject. .
The D-Day Traveling Museum and The American Values
Traveling Museum is a very unique interactive venue to teach students as an
"onsite field trip" which can be driven to a school district where many
schools can experience the museum, or driven to a particular
school as an onsite field trip. (See pictures) The museum is presently set
up to depict D-Day and the Values of WWII, but if needed, the Values of the
Revolutionary War can also be depicted This can correspond with a teacher's
current academic and character development curriculum. It also goes hand in
hand with the "Presidential No Child Left Behind Curriculum."
The beautiful and impressive "chopped C-47" aircraft is
on a house trailer frame and can be towed to any location for as long as two
to three days. This historical aircraft has had many names throughout
American history. It was first named the DC-3 which was the main airplane
used in the American Airline Industry and then came WWII. The planes were
quickly impressed into service and renamed "C-47 / Gooney Bird / Dekota /
Skytrain / Puff The Magic Dragon." This historic plane saved many a
soldier's lives in the medical field and re-supplied soldiers all over the
world. It further dropped Paratroopers at Normandy, Holland and drop zones
throughout the war. They further pulled Gliders and Glidermen into combat in
all the major battles of Europe during WWII.
They continued their faithful service into the Korean
War, the Berlin Airlift and in Vietnam as (Puff The Magic Dragon). These
American workhorses are still flying throughout the world today. "Rosie the
Riveter" put over 900,000 rivets into each airplane. Each rivet placement
involved two American workers usually Women.
WHEN This
Museum can be brought to your special event whether it be a parade, civic,
or school, or Church event. It can further be used for re-enactor, collector
or historical town or city events. PLEASE BOOK EARLY (770-719-2365) or Email
Khern2365@aol.com.
We are getting bookings a year in advance. The Spring
and Fall are the best times due to the weather, however winter and summer
will work. The plane has an air conditioner and has been shown in the summer
however it will always be 15-20 degrees warmer inside due to the Olive Drab
color which draws heat.
WHERE The
Museum is a Traveling Museum pulled by a Ford F-350 Dually Pickup truck. It
can be taken to most any location but the preferred area of our operation is
within the South East due to distance. The Museum is located in the Atlanta,
Georgia area. If areas out of the south east are needed, special
arrangements can be made.
HOW:
Contact Dr. Knox, Or Dr. Lydia Herndon, at 770-719-2365 (home) or (cell)

Museum lights and the air conditioner.
COST
PHASE I
D-Day Traveling Museum (C-47 Airplane Only) $500. a day with (Age Appropiate
Teaching Tent if Needed).
PHASE TWO involves two other very
historical vehicles WHICH WE CAN BRING TO YOUR EVENT!!
For those over forty, you might remember the weekly TV Show on black and
white TV, "RAT PATROL." These were the WWII "DESERT
RATS" which used heavily armed American "Gun Jeeps" that reeked havoc as
they raided German Airfields and Supply Depots to shorten the war in North
Africa from 1941-1943. We also have a WWII German
BMW MOTORCYCLE WITH SIDECAR. BOTH OF THESE VEHICLES
can be brought to your event for "rides into history." (SEE
PHOTOS) Both have proven very popular with "children of all ages !"
PHASE THREE $500:
See Photo Page 11
We
can bring to your event a very wonderful British Armored Scout Car called
the "FERRET." The Ferret is a post war 41/2 ton vehicle with a 6 Cyl. Rolls
Royce Engine. The Ferret is currently used by over 30 countries. It was
last used by the British Forces in Dessert Storm. It has a rotating turret
for a machine gun and is painted in the Urban Camo found only in the Berlin
Brigade. This particular historical vehicle was used to patrol the Berlin
Wall before the people, yearning to be free, tore it down.
We have three pricing packages.
If we just bring the D-Day Traveling Museum C-47 plane, we can come for
$500.00 a day with hotel expenses of needed. If you want the D-Day Museum
AND the two vehicles for "rides" we can come for $1,000. a day. The reason
for the increase is that I must hire drivers for the vehicles and bring
another tow vehicle with
trailer.
If you want the whole enchilada, involving the C-47 Plane, the two Rat
Patrol Vehicles, and the wonderful British armored scout car, it is $1,500.If your organization cannot afford the $500. or the $1000., then we can come
free of charge but will charge for the rides and the museum. The Museum is
$1.00 per person and each Vehicle Ride is $3.00 per person. This venue
however, must have 500 people or more to make our expenses. For more
information contact Dr. Knox Herndon
